Simon is the third generation of cellists in his family. He studied at London’s Royal College of Music (2000-2004) with Leonid Gorokhov. Other teachers include Franz Helmerson, Natalia Gutman and his father Raphael Wallfisch. He began playing with the English Chamber orchestra aged 20, and has played with the Royal Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestras.
Alongside his freelance activities, he continues to be in demand as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher. Simon was a founding member of the Bolivar Soloists, currently signed to Deutsche Grammophon, and has performed in festivals all over the world.
His performances combining cello and voice have brought him to concert halls around the world, including Berlin Konzerthaus, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, London’s Royal Festival Hall and Kings Place.
